Minsk to host 2017-18 Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup

In January 2018 Minsk will host the final round of the 2017-18 Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup.

Despite the fact that this will be the first-ever World Cup event in the Belarusian capital, Minsk has a big experience in organizing large-scale international cycling events.

In 2009 a brand new Minsk-Arena velodrome opened its doors to the best European track cyclists for the UEC Track Cycling Elite European championships. The event was organized at the top level. The UCI highly appreciated these efforts and in 2013 awarded to Minsk the biggest track cycling event – World championships. The event was a full success. Guest and participants really enjoyed the competitions as well as beautiful Minsk views. Numerous fans of cycling in Belarus could watch live performances of the world's leading cyclists. A huge media coverage gave an additional impetus to the popularization of cycling in Belarus.

In 2014 the Minsk Arena velodrome hosted the international track cycling competitions Grand Prix Minsk organized by Minsk Cycling Club and awarded by the UCI the highest category – Class 1. The event became a good tradition, its geography and popularity are growing every year. The track cycling stars become common guests in Minsk.

The success of the track cycling competition encouraged Minsk to take over another large scale cycling event – first ever international road races in Minsk. In 2015 over 130 riders representing 22 teams from 10 countries came to Minsk to take part in 2 single-day UCI Europe Tour races Grand Prix Minsk and Minsk Cup dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus. During the last three years the exiting and unpredictable contest on the city streets attracted a lot of spectators and firmly entered in the UCI international calendar.

Now Minsk is preparing to write a new cycling chapter in its history. We expect it to be also bright and amazing!
